Rangitoto College's library has once again proved a popular spot, with multiple events being held this term.
A mixed start to 2021 did nothing to quell the enthusiasm of returning and new Rangi Book Club members. It affirmed Book Club is a place to belong, enjoy and share. We were delighted to see a large number of Year 9 and 10’s joining us.
After a welcome and a chance to eat lunch, we set up three tables with our latest books. The students had five minutes at each table to browse the collection then they could take the book they wanted. This activity not only gave everyone a chance to get to know each other but also to discuss their favourite books, genres and authors.
History teacher Alisha Tilbury has once again offered her time to work with the seniors and is looking forward to some interesting discussions with them about their reads.
Also held recently was the Readers Cup Competition, a reading competition designed for Year 9 students. Teams of four students, and one reserve, read a set of six books, and then compete with other school teams to answer quiz questions from these books. This challenges students to read widely, work collaboratively in a team and continue developing a love of reading. The teams compete at an interschool level, similar to sporting events, and get to meet other students with an equal passion for books. Winners of the local competition will represent our school at the Nationals at Dilworth College in Term 3.
Our Readers Cup representatives this year from 9CA are Timea Andrell, Kate Blackett, Anna Fisk, Poppy Kostan and Evangeline Yan.
Thank you to all students who competed and good luck to the selected team.
